One of Queen Victoria’s ladies-in-waiting, Anna Maria, Duchess of Bedford, finding herself rather peckish at about 4 p.m each day, adopted the habit of having a dainty meal at that time. Soon, she was inviting her friends to join her, and so the tradition of afternoon tea was born.
We are two sisters who believe that the Duchess of Bedford had the right idea. One of us is a Leiths-trained chef, the other a keen baker and tea aficionado, and both of us were brought up to take our tea seriously. We specialise in creating delicious, old-fashioned cakes using local butter, cream and eggs, and home-made jam. Besides our culinary abilities, we also have a beautiful collection of vintage china.
Afternoon tea is a wonderful way of celebrating all kinds of events, from birthdays and Christenings to hen parties and weddings. If you would like us to help you make your occasion special by catering for your tea party, hiring you some of our china, and providing charming and attentive staff to pour the tea, we would be delighted to hear from you.
